Prevalence and risk factors for maternal mortality at a tertiary care centre in Eastern Nepal- retrospective cross sectional study

Abstract Background The maternal mortality ratio is a significant public health indicator that reflects the quality of care services. prevalence still high in developing countries than developed countries. This study aimed to determine MMR and identify various risk factors causes mortality. Methods retrospective conducted tertiary center Eastern Nepal from 16 th July 2015 15 2020. was calculated per 100,000 live-births over five year’s period. death, delays and, different sociodemographic profiles were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results There total 55,667 deliveries during 129.34 year mean age gestational women with deaths 24.69 ± 5.99 years 36.15 4.38 weeks gestation. Obstetric hemorrhage, hypertensive disorder pregnancy sepsis leading death. prime contributory delay seeking reaching facility (type I delay:40.9%). Conclusions Despite availability comprehensive emergency obstetric at our center, almost 75% avoidable. are delayed referral other facilities. avoidable preventable through combined safe motherhood strategies, prompt referral, active management labor puerperium.
